Introducing the UK's first HaloIR™ Spa Experience
30 September 2020
Heat, light, scent, salt, sound. Simple elements, skilfully applied to amplify your senses and ground you in the present moment.
Welcome to the HaloIR™ spa treatment, our brand new addition to the Spa at Ye Olde Bell.
We are the first spa in the UK to offer this revolutionary breath and detox treatment. For the first time infrared sauna technology has been combined with halotherapy and chromatherapy. The result? An immersive wellness experience— and an absolute must try.
You are what you breathe
We've all - somewhat begrudgingly - accepted the truth behind “you are what you eat”. But if the contents of your stomach can have a wide-ranging effect on your health and well being, what about the contents of your lungs?
New, and alarming, air pollution statistics show it can. A new study has found that air pollution is a key cause of premature death in the UK, killing 64,000 Brits each year. We each draw an average of 25,000 breaths a day. And each one is like drawing lots - potentially exposing our airways to any allergens or pollutant particles that are circulating in the air around us. Once in our bodies, these nasties can cause inflammation and long term damage to our lungs and respiratory tract.
Halotherapy
The good news is that breathing in dry, salty air helps to counteract the negative effects of air pollution.
Simply put, halotherapy is salt therapy. Put in practise this means breathing in air with high levels of pure sodium chloride (salt). Salt is naturally anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory. It can reach deep into our respiratory tract and act as a natural cleanser: drawing out moisture, breaking down excess mucus and tar, and speeding up the removal of toxins.
Salty air is also rich in negative ions, which are capable of increasing oxygen flow to the brain and normalising our serotonin (happy hormone) levels.
The verdict? Halotherapy is definitely worth its salt.
Aromatherapy
The HaloIR™ spa also uses the mood enhancing power of aromatherapy. Smell the special blend of evocative and calming essential oils while you reap the benefits of mineral and ion-rich air.
Chromatherapy and red light waves
Chromatherapy is a relatively new therapy that utilises the healing benefits of colour. Specifically, the visible light spectrum. Let there be light. The energy responsible for all life on earth, light is able to regenerate our bodies on a cellular level and help to reset our circadian rhythms.
In 1965, NASA discovered that astronauts returning to earth experienced muscle and bone atrophy. So began a series of experiments where the broad spectrum of light and near-infrared light were combined to stimulate cellular regeneration in the astronauts' bones, muscles and skin. Since then chromatherapy has been used to treat diverse conditions, from burn victims to bone fractures.
The HaloIR™ spa incorporates medical grade chromatherapy and red light waves to stimulate collagen production and improve skin vitality and treat the symptoms of acne and ageing.
Guided Meditation
In our busy and over-digitalised lives, we often struggle to switch off.
You know the feeling. You put down your phone, exit tabs, snap your laptop shut. But your mind is whirring.
Even in our downtime, we’re often only a few feet away from our emails and notifications— and feeling stressed out and guilty if we ignore them. The needless stress this creates is damaging to our physical and mental health. Our spa is designed for your relaxation and the HaloIR spa takes this a step further with a KSARA professional guided meditation.
While we may feel modern society is more in need of it than ever, guided meditation is an ancient practise. The earliest written records come from Hindu traditions, in India, of Vendatism from around 1500 BCE and these came from an older oral tradition. Our practitioner will guide you through a mindful practise that draws your attention inwards and leaves you feeling invigorated and in control.

When done well, a spa offers a total sensory immersion from beginning to end. The thing is, virtually anything can be called one. Leisure centres with a jacuzzi, hotels with a treatment room. It’s a mixed bag.
Our spa is different. We have 10 unique thermal experiences and the best spa technology. That's why we are one of three spas in the country with a Stonebath steam room, and one of a handful worldwide to offer a Snowstorm spa.
The HaloIR™ spa treatment will be part of this journey, combining infrared sauna technology with halotherapy and chromatherapy. Retreat into your senses...taste the salt in the air, smell the essential oil blend, feel the warm infrared heat sink into your skin, hear the soothing guided meditation and see the changing light of the chromatherapy and red light waves. And, breathe...
