Do you need a Digital Detox?
11 March 2018
We like to think we’re pretty savvy when it comes to our skincare and general wellbeing.
However recent studies have highlighted a potentially hidden problem that lots of us are exposed to on a daily basis.
Many of us have jobs that see us stuck behind a screen all day, or at least part of it. Then when we go home and look at our phones and tablets, check emails, shop online, catch up with news and social media and generally find ourselves in front of a screen again.
Scientists now believe that the HEV Light (that’s the blue light emitted from phones, tablets etc) is potentially very damaging and can affect our skin and our sleep.
HEV light can penetrate all the way to the DNA of the skin cells and affect their regeneration and starve them of oxygen. The HEV can lead to premature wrinkles and the skin appearing a grey, pallid colour.
With regards to phones and devices at bedtime the blue light can also interfere with our sleep. Exposure to electronic devices before we drift off can delay the release of sleep-inducing melatonin, increase alertness and even re-set the body’s internal clock.
Experts advise to try and limit use before bedtime, ideally not using your device for two hours or more before you sleep. It is also a good idea to keep your phone away from your bed and turn off all notifications to ensure you fully switch off and allow the mind to rest instead of listening out for the ping of an alert.
For those after a full digital detox we’d recommend our Relax and Rejuvinate Package, which includes a full day in the spa, a tasty two course lunch in our Herb Garden Brasserie, Sabbia Med treatment (a deeply relaxing sunlight therapy) and a 60 minute treatment of your choice. It is followed by dinner in the hotel restaurant or bistro and a restful night’s sleep in one of our exquisite bedrooms. To ensure you start the following day relaxed we also offer breakfast and a late check out. https://www.yeoldebell-hotel.co.uk/spa/packages
In the spa we use products from the wonderful Germaine de Capuccini. They are experts in the field of skin care and beauty and have created specific products and treatments to combat the problems of digital pollution. They have put together a top skincare guide with advice from the importance of a good cleansing routine to using a full SPF moisturiser. https://germaine-de-capuccini.co.uk/pollution-new-dangers-skin/?+Mailing+List&-2018_pollution_blog_post&&-0a11f6df4d-328917657&&
